The Hiscox Insurance Contents Calculator gives you a comprehensive on-the-go mobile tool allowing you to record the approximate value of your possessions inside and outside your home.

It’s often hard to put a figure on what level of insurance you need to cover your home contents. We are constantly acquiring new possessions throughout our lives and the cost of replacing everything we own, as new, is not something we generally stop to think about. According to the Association of British Insurers as many as 1 in 5 UK homes could be underinsured.

It’s important to ensure you have enough home contents insurance cover in place. In the unfortunate event of you needing to make a claim, an insurer may only pay out up to the maximum amount you are covered for and not the actual cost of replacing any additional possessions beyond that sum.Using the Hiscox Contents Calculator can help you establish the cost of contents in your home to ensure you have the right level of cover in place.

Within each assigned room or area, contents can also be grouped into different categories, such as furniture, electrical items, jewellery etc – and all of this can be fully customised. Any specific items can also be photographed using the iPhone camera and stored within the app, to a maximum of three photos per category.

After entering your possessions in the Hiscox Contents Calculator you can export a report by email. This report groups your contents together by room and category, with the highest value first. You can also include photos if you wish. This report is useful to keep on file for reference of the belongings in your home and their value.

The in-built app calculator ensures you don’t have to leave the app to use the standard calculator, and details you have entered for you home can be saved and revisited or updated at a later date.

The Hiscox Contents Calculator can be used a guide to understand the true value of your belongings. However, please be aware it is your responsibility, as the policyholder, to ensure you have enough cover in place to reflect the cost of replacing all of your home contents.
